Dan Shaw
Owner of Danville BnB
Dan’s journey began after high school outside Pittsburgh, where he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Alaska and North Dakota. Tired of the cold, Dan and his wife Deborah moved to Orlando, Florida, where he ran a successful plumbing business for 42 years. Dan’s passion for aviation led him to develop a small Airpark community in Geneva, where he built his home. Following his semi-retirement, Dan’s creative vision and hands-on approach turned a simple guest house project into the vibrant and unique Downtown Danville. His dedication and the serendipitous success of the project have made Danville a cherished venue for celebrations and gatherings.
History of Building Downtown Danville
After retiring in 2008, Dan embarked on a new project: constructing a guest house on his airstrip in Geneva, Florida. This project, which began with just Dan and two young carpenters, was inspired by his passion for unique structures and his aircraft hobby. Using materials from Craigslist auctions and salvage yards, Dan built what would become Downtown Danville, a distinctive and eclectic guest house. Completed in 2011, the venue quickly gained popularity for its uniqueness and charm. Friends, neighbors, and eventually even HGTV took notice, leading to a surge in requests for events and weddings. Danville officially became a bed-and-breakfast in 2012 and has since hosted over 80 weddings, transforming into a beloved location for special occasions.
